Child Passenger Safety Trainings
Provided through SAFE KIDS and
Utah Highway Safety Office
There are several trainings provided through SAFE KIDS
for different target audiences.
SAFE KIDS Child Passenger Safety Training (CPS) Certification
This course is a 40 hour
Standardized Child Passenger Training that provides information pertaining
to vehicle seat belts,
air bags, and Child Safety Seats. This training is sponsored
for nurses, law
enforcement, fire & rescue, child care providers, and professionals
such as EMS. Continuing education credit can be provided for
such professional organizations as Emergency Nurses through this
training. This course
includes hands-on and written testing to obtain National Certification.
Upon completion of this training a person is certified for
two years and then re-certification is required. For courses and

There is a $120.00 fee for taking this course. A

Operation Kids—LE
(Law Enforcement) Training
This is a two day training program that provides law enforcement
officers with knowledge of the benefits of occupant protection systems
and the need to educate the public. It also prepares them to observe
use and misuse of child restraint systems, and enhances their ability
to enforce child passenger safety laws. This training course does not
certify the participant to perform car seat checks. This course is

Operation Kids—RN
(Nurses)
This is a two day training program that provides nurses with knowledge
of the benefits of occupant protection systems and the need to educate
caregivers. This training course does not certify the participant to
perform car seat checks. This course is available at no charge. For

Moving Kids Safely in Child Care
This 12-hour child passenger safety training focuses on the role of
the child care provider and the liability risks that differ when the
caretaker is being paid for the care of the child they are transporting.
It includes injury prevention for child passengers, technical training
in child seat use and installation, and guidelines for developing policies
for the child care providers regarding transportation of the child. For
