DPS, DABS, & WCF Insurance Partners Urging Utahns To Add A Sober Ride To Their Holiday Plans

MEDIA AVAILABILITY: The Utah Department of Public Safety’s Highway Safety Office, in partnership with the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services (DABS) and WCF Insurance, will hold a press briefing on Wednesday to address Utah’s rising impaired-driving crashes and fatalities during the winter holiday season. December remains one of Utah’s most dangerous months for DUI-related deaths.

Speakers will outline this year’s “Make it home for the holidays — plan a sober ride” campaign and announce a WCF-funded $10 Lyft ride credit available statewide. Officials will underscore that impairment begins with the first drink or drug, and that the safest choice is to separate drinking from driving altogether.

Colonel Greg Holley with Utah Highway Patrol will speak about upcoming statewide enforcement efforts, DUI statistics, crash data, and campaign messages to reinforce that law enforcement’s objective is not to increase arrests but rather to encourage individuals to plan ahead and arrange a sober ride. Over 250 extra DUI enforcement shifts will be worked by 28 Utah law enforcement agencies statewide from December 10 through January 1, 2026.

DABS liquor stores and participating local bars will feature mirror decals, bar-top signage, register prompts, and QR-code installations linking to the Lyft credit and educational resources. DPS will also highlight high-visibility DUI enforcement happening statewide through New Year’s Day.

Media will have opportunities for remarks, b-roll, interviews, and demonstrations of the QR code inside the venue.
