Bicycle Rodeo Trailer Program
🚲 Utah Bicycle Rodeo Trailer Program: Safe Riding Skills for Kids
The Utah Highway Safety Office (HSO), in partnership with Utah Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC), provides fully equipped Bicycle Rodeo trailers to the public free of charge. These trailers include all the necessary equipment for you to host a successful community safety event that offers kids a safe space to learn about bike safety.

🛡️ What is a Bicycle Rodeo?
A Bicycle Rodeo is a hands-on clinic designed to teach children the importance of safe bicycling and essential riding skills.
- 🎯Target Age: Children ages 4–13
- 💪Skills Course: A road course designed to teach children how to handle real-life situations, such as traffic lights, stop signs, pedestrians, and road intersections.
- 🗓️Program Flow:
- Short lecture on bicycle safety.
- Safety check for the rider and the bicycle.
- Skills course simulation.
Why Formal Training Is Essential For Safety
Some adults think formal training isn't necessary, but today's roadways are more crowded and may be intimidating for new bicyclists. A bicycle is a vehicle, and children must learn the rules of the road to ride safely and confidently.
📋 Planning for a Successful Rodeo Event
-
Setup/Takedown: Allow about one hour to set up the course.
-
Volunteers: Plan to have 8–10 volunteers to help staff the skills stations.
-
Participant Form: You must use the [Informed Consent for Minors] form (copies are provided inside the trailer). All participants are required to sign this form.
-
Safety: It is highly recommended that you have a first aid kit available at your event. (We do not provide a kit)
-
Trailer Condition: We ask that you return the trailer and all equipment in the same (or better) condition in which you received them (bikes secured, cones neatly stacked, signs secured, trash disposed). Note any repair needs on the Event Evaluation Form.
